Talking is strong medicine for getting to the root causes of problems. Psychotherapy reduces pain and suffering while increasing self acceptance and equanimity. Whether depressed, anxious, suffering from grief/loss, or, whether one has a diagnosis of Bipolar, PTSD or psychosis, the psychotherapeutic environment is a place to take the time to uncover root causes of pain and suffering, repair and recover and find ways to bear the unbearable. Suffering occurs when coping strategies are habitually used and when one blames and devalues oneself for the fact that they nolonger work. Taking time to talk is a way to understand oneself, accept oneself and develop new and effective approaches to living. In order to stop suffering and feel better, an authentic connection with a skilled practitioner is established and becomes a vehicle for moving out of painful states of mind. A therapeutic environment is a place to develop and exercise one’s “voice”— saying what you feel and asking for what you want. It has been scientifically proven that positive changes occur in the brain when one person talks and when an=other listens, hears and understands. Within an environment of safety, self inquiry and honesty it is, I believe, the relationship itself that ultimately “cures”.

FINDING YOUR ABUNDANCE My work centers on helping you to discover and connect with the true nature of your being. In uncovering this deeper aspect of yourself, you have the opportunity of listening to your truth…a truth that will guide you toward your natural abundance. An abundance that is your birthright …… that manifests by allowing an unfolding of your unique talents, abilities and ways of being in this world. The ability to find our abundance is often lost to many of us. Our true self is covered in childhood with layers of patterning and beliefs laid down by family conditioning, societal mores and through successive experiences in life. We lose touch with our true nature and find our lives limited by learned ways of being. Staying in these past patterns means creating the same life with the same limitations. We will work together to help you discover and reconnect with your true self, through listening and working with the wisdom of the body. For it is through the connection with our body that we are most able to stay present and it is in the present that we are our most powerful and creative; the most we can be. It is in the present that healing happens, it is in the present that change happens, and it is from the present that we create our abundance. My work encompasses body-centered psychotherapy, craniosacral therapy and education. Private sessions and classes are designed to help you find your abundance by helping you to connect with your body, your wisdom, and your truth.

Psychotherapy&Beyond: Clear your Core Issues&Step into your Fullness of Being Have you been ‘working on yourself’ for a while but still find that the lasting changes you’ve been longing for continue to elude you?  Or perhaps, the peace of mind and emotional balance you’ve been seeking come and go with the ups and downs of life.  Are you able to intellectually understand your issues but, despite your insight, continue to find yourself repeating the same old patterns?  Why is it that so  many of us who have been trying hard through therapy, self-help or spiritual practices, still find ourselves  hooked by old issues and triggers? We feel pulled out of the present moment – and can get caught in the “I got it, I lost it” cycle – feeling connected to our spiritual essence or well-being and then seemingly “losing touch” with it again. Many of our best efforts to change don’t succeed for a couple of reasons.  One, because we have not fully cleared our core conditioning (automatic patterns, beliefs, emotional reactions), which still trigger us because they lie buried in our primitive  brain and nervous system, out of reach of our rational, conscious mind.  And two, because we haven’t learned to tap into and rest in our natural sense of freedom, comfort and soothing peace that doesn’t come and go, that is always available, even in the midst of our busy minds, emotional issues,  and physical challenges.  This space of natural freedom is sometimes referred to as the ‘ultimate medicine’ because it naturally transforms and dissolves intense emotions and sensations without ignoring them, thus opening us to an all-inclusive state of fundamental peace and fulfillment.    I offer a blend of cutting edge psychotherapy and easily accessible, nondual spirituality that addresses both of the above reasons that change hasn’t been successful.  The blend of these two approaches will help you clear the automatic, reactive  patterns/issues that have been  obstacles to making positive changes  -- and will support you  in resting in the healing state of natural freedom and peace – referred to by various traditions as ‘healing bliss,’ ‘love,’ ‘spacious presence’, ‘conscious spirit’.   Once you know how to access it, you will find this peaceful state increasingly permeating your day to day life, as it is always readily available. How do the therapeutic tools work? The advanced therapeutic techniques of Brainspotting and  EMDR can release painful emotions, change difficult behavior patterns and reduce reactions/triggers to situations and relationships.   They work by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma and other difficult symptoms that are lodged in the deep limbic brain and nervous system. In addition, I use the therapeutic tools of hypnotherapy and energy work to clear unconscious obstacles and enhance your inherent strengths.   In combination, these deeply effective methods can also liberate constricted energies that have blocked your experience of ‘natural freedom’ and help you open to this ultimate state.     What can you expect from a session?  I have a warm, down to earth style, which is compassionate as well as insightful/intuitive. My clients report experiencing a sense of profound, positive release and lightness after most sessions.   The therapeutic methods of Brainspotting, EMDR and hypnosis are gentle, yet penetrating.  There is a sense of spontaneity and often surprise in how one moves organically toward healing.  Also, as we work together, you can expect to easily recognize the state of   peace, comfort and security inside yourself, naturally available in each moment.  As we slip into that ultimate state together, you will feel your needs being fulfilled from within and can rest in a space where ‘nothing is missing’.

So when a person comes to counseling I have no preconceived notions of what the work will look like. When I create a safe, encouraging environment for someone to communicate their present experience, the process that develops leads to an awareness of self. The process often involves first recognizing past wounds in the present experience. The space is then created to courageously feel that experience. Once that is made conscious to the body and mind, we are able to make fearless choices in the present.

Are you facing a time of difficult change in your life and wondering how you are going to find the strength to cope with it? Would you like wise counsel and support to negotiate this transition with grace and courage?   Perhaps, you’re facing a health, relationship, or parenting issue that has you overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated or depressed. Whatever kind of difficulty you’re facing; my heart goes out to you.   What does it mean to find a therapist you can trust? ---Someone who will listen compassionately as you tell your story; someone who will not judge you or find you lacking. ---Someone who can see the preciousness and wisdom at the core of your being rather than viewing the challenges you are facing from a pathological model.   ---Someone to be with you in a conscious, aware and compassionate way when you drop into a place that is sensitive or uncomfortable. There is an in-depth type of psychotherapy that shows you HOW to focus conscious awareness on the emotional dimensions of life, so that you can learn HOW to make the changes you want to make. This is a very different experience than “talk therapy” where you gain an intellectual understanding of your emotional states, but no clear idea of HOW to change. You can make the shift you want to make in your life. By bringing compassionate and focused awareness to the present moment, I can show you how to slow everything down a bit, until you can relax and begin to breath more deeply. As the mind quiets, and awareness heightens, I can guide you to look tenderly at the emotional pain you’re facing in the here and now. As you and I bring awareness to this very moment, we can experiment with tiny changes you can make in your process while you’re in a therapy session; this can open the door for larger changes to occur in your day to day life.  Just by bringing conscious awareness (not just intellectual understanding) to the “root cause” of the emotional discomfort, you can begin to see the whole psychological knot untangle. Presence and consciousness awareness are the magic that allow emotional suffering to melt away. As the pattern begins to unwind and dissolve, you will find that your energy and awareness are freed up, and at last you can live life from a place of vibrancy and vitality. The repetitive patterns from the past will no longer haunt you and you will be free to see the world with fresh eyes, and notice options you didn’t realize were there. What a relief and sense of lightness and wholeness to live in the here and now!   Sharon Hart, M.A. is a wise and inspiring individual and an extraordinary therapist with over 25 years of experience. When the path gets rocky and you begin to doubt that you can change, she knows how to hold a sacred place where you can dare to see your true beauty. Sharon is the founder of Quantum Dialogue, a new form of psychotherapy. Her soon-to-be published book on the subject is entitled: “More Than You Hoped For: Cultivating Inner Peace and Inner Strength in Times of Change and Challenge.” www.quantumdialogue.com Sharon taught couples and relationship classes on the national circuit with renowned author, the late Bruce Fisher. Healing in the Presence of Loss and Dying Loss can take many different forms, resulting in some form of ending – or death. Our culture and the power of the media have inundated us with the thought that death is not only final, but also a failure. With both the sense of finality coupled with failure, we can be left nearly paralyzed with fear when facing death. Consequently we may also be left challenged in accepting our loss. Death is what we often see as the other side of life. The other day my 24-year-old son made a three-word statement that flowed out of his mouth so simply, and yet the words were profound. I asked him if I could quote him. He was surprised, since to him it seemed so obvious. His statement: “Death amplifies life” has the depth of what I’m trying to convey here, plus a hidden extra something that we tend to overlook when our suffering is so deep. That hidden piece is the choice in how we perceive death to amplify our life. We can choose to suffer in a “perceived failure” and fearfully consider our loss, or we can choose to accept that loss is indeed a part of life. Upon accepting our loss we take the steps toward healing and amplifying our life toward positive transformation. The decision to make a choice toward transformation is one of the first steps in amplifying one’s life. I say to you now in this moment if you have made this choice, “congratulations”! If not, either way, take note what process within yourself you took to make the choice of transforming or not. That process is an all-important piece of getting to know yourself in your healing. This part of the process is you becoming self-aware -- an integral part of healing and the path toward personal and spiritual growth. Mindfulness, the teaching of self-awareness is a component being brought forward in many private practices, and a skill that is foundational to self-empowerment. Life is what we often see as the other side of death. Notice how life and death can be flipped like a two-sided mirror. On either side of the mirror we have something we can choose to look at. I invite you to consider the two sides of life and death and how loss fits in-between and how self-empowerment is the gift inside the loss. Also consider that loss comes not only in the form of death of the body, but in the loss of a job, divorce, a child leaving home for school for the first time, becoming a parent, loss of a body part, being diagnosed with a health condition or a mental disorder, graduating from school, marriage, moving to a new home, etc. With loss being a part of life, making the choice in accepting loss is a pathway toward self-empowerment and spiritual growth. As the Dalai Lama states, “Everybody wants happiness, doesn’t want suffering”. Learning how to become self-aware is a key component toward positive transformation and the moving away from suffering. Self-awareness begins the process of getting to know yourself, your ego, and to take more power in your life toward making choices that help you identify how you can create more happiness and success in your life. I teach emotional regulation, interpersonal and life skills that actually address and retrain the feeling brain to produce lasting, long-term results in adult excesses (eating, smoking, working...) including “softer” excesses like people pleasing, rescuing others, distancing or thinking too much. Most important, participants experience an abundance of inner rewards such as balance, vibrancy, intimacy and a sense of sanctuary. With repeated use of the skills (usually in a group), participants “rewire” their brain to be more resilient to stress and favor natural pleasures instead of quick fixes.

Consider this: We are not human beings having a spiritual experience we are Spiritual beings having a human experience.  How many of us truly embrace that reality and live accordingly?  It is not a goal to achieve, but a life journey that has its ebbs and flows.  It is easy to be positive, optimistic, and self-confidant when our life appears to be flowing unimpeded, but how do we respond when our comfort zone is challenged?   Having worked in the field of psychotherapy for over 16 years I have specialized in helping individuals recover from trauma.  I’ve used integrative medicine techniques to assist individuals in recovering from trauma issues that have impacted their ability to overcome self-defeating and self-limiting beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors.   Some individuals have suffered extreme trauma in childhood that impacts every area of their lives and curtails the ability to reach full human potential. Yet each of us have experienced trauma in our lives at some level.  Trauma can cause us to become overly vigilant and fear-based, by maintaining the brain connection with our fight-flight-freeze mechanism that essentially paralyzes our ability toward appropriate decision-making and self-care.  While talk therapy is an important part of recovery, I have found that it is not enough.  A body-mind-spirit approach is vitally important to reclaiming our wellness.     I take a compassionate, empathetic approach using subtle energy medicine, spiritual connection, and sound psychotherapeutic skills to assist individuals (children, adolescents, adults), couples and families in understanding causal issues, releasing self-limiting belief patterns, and embracing wellness in body-mind/emotions-spirit.  A greater connection to our life purpose, our inherent right to joy, peace, and wellness, and our interconnection with all life is available to all of us.  I am happy to facilitate for you a return to that joyous journey of self-empowerment and wellness.

Presence in Your Life Trisha Dittrick, MA, LPC Presence is being in its simplest form.  When we break presence down and look at the elements that allow us to be present in ourselves, in our relationships and in our work, we find it includes aliveness, embodiment and spirit that takes us beyond the drama of a situation, any stuckness we feel within it and the often exhausting, incomplete aspects of life.    Slowing down to be present can feel impossible given the complexities of our lives.  If our dominant experience of life is worry, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, addiction or relationship problems, we can end up feeling depleted and unavailable to ourselves and others.  Here’s the thing:  when we aren’t present we miss out on our life experiences, the depth of our relationships, the joy of being alive and the fulfillment we find in our life. When I shut down to the significant moments in my life, especially when they include pain, the pain I feel never has a chance to move through me and instead becomes stuck.  It then can be a struggle for me to be available or present to the new experience or moment, because my energy and attention remain back in the past.  Completing and moving past the damaging repeating cycles we can find ourselves in is the work of therapy—you are working to be present and aware so you can make new choices.  Being present can take time and undoubtedly takes practice.  The therapeutic process helps facilitate your capacity for presence by bringing clarity and focus to your practice.   Here and now we find power and healing in connection, in relationship.     The power of relationship, therapeutic or otherwise, is its ability to reflect how present we are with ourselves and those in front of us.  When I’m present and sitting across from a client, I have the opportunity to connect with them authentically, wholly and in the moment.  In that moment, we get to find out if we are able to be present with each other:  Are our eyes meeting, or is the ceiling more interesting?  Is your body supporting itself and open or collapsing in, so you don’t have to connect with me? We get to experience where each of us, as an individual begin and end in relationship with each other.  I have the opportunity to be fully present with you and allow myself to hear and feel your experience through my mind, body and spirit.  Together we get to experiment with an experience, a moment that offers something different than either of us has known before—we get to experience the moment of now, freshly, with nothing in the way.  That is the magic of therapy, the magic of presence and ultimately, the magic of life.

Methods I work in a Contemplative model of therapy. Contemplative psychotherapy is about exploring your mind, habits and emotions bringing greater awareness and insight into our daily lives. This approach sees the inherent wisdom in a person rather than pathologizing a person’s pain and suffering.  Working with present moment experiences rather than relying on past alone can help clients obtain skills to live an authentic and meaningful life. My approach is direct, practical yet compassionate. Services I work with Individuals, Couples and Groups Experience I have worked in the psychotherapy field for the last sixteen years. I have worked at universities and served students and staff of all ages. Agua Alma™ is a form of warm water movement therapy. Water is the fundamental healer in the Agua Alma work. The practitioner is the bridge for the healing effects of the water. The ingredients of the Agua Alma work--the non-cognitive, womb-like fluidity of non-functional passive movements tends to take us beyond the usual parameters of our normal waking reality. The range of experiences are highly individual. Some have a wonderful somatic adventure, feeling as if they were a skilled gymnast or dancer. For others, the reward of regaining tiny incremental movement after injury is enormous. Many experience a state of profound inner depth and stillness. The waterwork environment helps us shift out of the dominance of the cognitive processes, calling all the parts of us into presence, into a state of interconnection with all things -- a place that is at once highly personal, yet universal. This soul-level experience of "oneness" supports healing on a personal level, and also cultivates the awareness, caring, and inner knowing that helps to inform priorities and lifestyle choices of sustainability for our Planet.*Aston-Patterning (311 words)* /Skillful hands that touch deep, yet gently. Astute movement coaching that help you maintain results./Over time, your movement and the sum of your experiences shapes your body….and eventually your symptoms. Each important milestone—both physical and emotional has helped form who you are.In nature, we see that each form is unique, each individual rock, each tree, has its own individual shape and means of deriving balance. Yet, our cultural conditioning persuades us toward an external model of what is “ideal”. We default to a model on a poster, or a mentor or teacher. Or perhaps a Yoga or martial arts model of what is “ideal”.To find your full capacity and be in your “best” body, it is essential to address who YOU are—rather than working toward that “poster” ideal that is an external model. The view of Aston-Patterning™ is that the "ideal" is unique to each individual. Good posture is not achieved by holding your body in a certain shape, it is achieved by learning to recognize what balance feels like. It is a matter of balancing, not holding. Referencing the sensation of balance helps you refine your body awareness, and helps you know and understand yourself better.Whether working with a car accident, disease process, or performance improvement—sensitively assessing and addressing your uniqueness is how to help you come to your full capacity. The Aston tools for this process include: accurate assessment,  three forms of hands-on work, movement education, ergonomics and Aston Fitness. • Existential Counseling - Bad Faith and the Couple's DilemmaAs an enthusiastic couple’s counselor, I'm interested in how the life force is exchanged in relationship. What is life force? My practical definition is that it is the enthusiasm we feel in the giving and taking of attention, affection, touch, eye contact and conversation. It's the desire to engage one another in excitement, passion and curiosity - tempered with trust and safety.Couples seek counseling when this exchange of life force seems lost. They describe their anxieties: Something doesn't feel right. Something is lost that was there in the beginning. There is betrayal, unfaithfulness, boredom - or conversation has dried up. The couple may seek therapy to jazz things up, restore romance, or enhance communication. In the beginning of the relationship everything is new. The partners feel free, enthusiastic and spontaneous. Later they reign-in their freedom to enter into an agreement of commitment and reliability. Although promises are made of undying love and enthusiasm, there is usually little discussion about freedom. Freedom is not even in the fine print. And for some people this works. The life force is managed within the contract. The couple looks with disapproval at the "contractual dishonesty" of others, at flirtations, affairs, looking at other persons, alternative or gay arrangements, masturbation when no one is looking, pornography, or even romance novels. This mutual disapproval may be part of the little lie that supports the notion of perfect love. An undercurrent of resentment, boredom, and secret desire may be suppressed so that the contract can be held sacred. New ideas, sexual conversation, flirtatious exchange of life force with others or contractual modifications would disappoint, upset or betray the agreement. But curiously pornography is a multi-billion dollar form of entertainment and distraction. Perhaps obsessive thoughts of affairs and flirtations roll around in the secret places of partners' minds. Then one day something may be revealed, stemming from this hidden world of mystery, fantasy, need, and desire. One partner bursts into an act of defiance and freedom (referred to as lying, betrayal or dishonesty). The question, "Where does the lie actually reside?", is not entertained. The guilty one offers amends, perhaps couple's counseling. Or the relationship ends, perhaps to the tune, "It was never right anyway." French existential philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre calls the fundamental lie that undermines relationships "bad faith." It is pretending that I and my partner have essential fixed natures, and that we can cast our relationship in stone. It is putting myself and my partner in boxes - having a comfortable relationship from which the mystery, adventure and passion drain away. The alternative is authentic relationship in which each values and supports the partner's freedom.Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, his companion of fifty years, tried to live such a relationship. Their relationship supported the mutual flowering of extraordinary creativity. Although Sartre and Beauvoir had an open relationship, the point is not monogamy, polyamory or any particular mode of behavior. Rather we need to support each other in our free development - and communicate about conflicts that may arise. Emotional paralysis often results if we box ourselves in to please one other.A distressed marriage need not be broken if a new spirit of relationship can be embraced. Sartre calls this the spirit of play as opposed to the spirit of seriousness. Our commitment to each other is not undying sameness, but authenticity of feeling and expression. Freedom isn't predictable. It may sometimes be threatening, but it can also be exciting and playful. This dilemma, freedom vs. security, requires discussion, flexibility, care and creativity. We can't have it both ways. As one partner in a relationship said: "I want you in a box. I want to see you as fixed. I don't want you to move in any way, or change. You might leave, or not love me. But I don't want you to be boring!"
